(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, reported that two Cambodian personnel were injured on Tuesday morning (Jan. 6) after an explosion occurred while they were carrying out orderliness arrangement at their stationed area in Mum Bei, Preah Vihear province.

According to the ministry, at 7:27 a.m. on 6 January 2026, in Mum Bei area, Preah Vihear province, Cambodian forces were carrying out organization and orderliness arrangements at their stationed area within Cambodia’s sovereign territory. At the same time, an explosion occurred from a pile of garbage, resulting in one minor and one severe injuries to two (2) Cambodian forces who were performing their duties at the site.

The injured personnels have already been transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The spokesperson added that, regarding this incident, the Cambodia–Thailand Border Coordination Working Team is currently working together on the matter. The Working teams of both countries have consulted, exchanged information, and jointly addressed the issue accordingly.

The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to reaffirm that, guided by the spirit of resolving issues peacefully within the framework of international law, and as a country with high responsibility and genuine love for peace, the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces reiterate their firm, honest, and sincere commitment to fully and strictly respect and implement the terms of the Ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, signed on July 28, 2025; the Joint Declaration on the peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, signed on October 26, 2025; the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), signed on December 27, 2025; and other relevant documents.

These efforts aim to rapidly restore normalcy, peace, stability, and security for residents living along the border areas of both countries.
