(Phnom Penh): Preah Vihear Temple, a World Heritage Site inscribed by UNESCO in 2008, is currently suffering severe damage.

According to assessments, the foundation and core structural elements of the temple have been shaken and are at risk of collapse due to deliberate and systematic shelling by Thai soldiers.

These military actions were not accidental, but involved clearly targeted strikes on key areas stretching up to 850 meters.

Such acts constitute a serious violation of the 1972 UNESCO Convention and the 1954 Hague Convention, both of which strictly prohibit the use of cultural property as military targets.

This destruction not only represents an infringement of Cambodia’s sovereignty, but also an irreversible loss of the shared cultural heritage of humanity.
