(Phnom Penh): On Friday afternoon (Jan. 2), Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak granted Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India, and his esteemed colleagues a courtesy call to meet and express New Year greetings and discuss work on further promoting bilateral tourism cooperation between Cambodia and India more actively for the New Year 2026 at the Ministry’s headquarter.
During the fruitful meeting, the ambassador expressed his appreciation for the good cooperation and close cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and the Indian Embassy in Cambodia that helped achieve the positive results, as well as the many tourism promotion events that have brought a remarkable and satisfied increase in Indian tourists in the year 2025. Meanwhile, the Indian ambassador also highlighted the continued support of the Ministry of Tourism in the successful implementation of the three Quick Impact Project (QIP) projects for the development of eco-tourism communities supported by the Government of India in the new year.
In response, Cambodian tourism minister thanked the Government and people of India for their unwavering support for Cambodia in all sectors, especially in the tourism sector, through the launch of the "Cambodia-India Tourism Year" and the large increase in Indian tourists visiting Cambodia in the last few months of 2025.
Minister Huot Hak also assured the Indian ambassador of the readiness of the Cambodian private sector to meet the expected increase in Indian tourists in 2026 through direct flights between New Delhi and Phnom Penh by Air Cambodia and between Kolkata and Siem Reap province by IndiGo Airlines, as well as safety factors, development in all sectors, rich tourism potential, especially the friendly hospitality as brotherhood who have shared culture, civilization and history for thousands of years.
Finally, the minister also thanked for QIP support and the opportunity for four officials from the Ministry of Tourism to attend a good and comprehensive training course in the Republic of India in late January 2026.
