(Phnom Penh): Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi welcomed the release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers, expressing hope for continued peace and reduced tensions.

Embassy of Japan in Cambodia quoted the ambassador’s statement on Wednesday (Dec. 31) as follows:

“I welcome the release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers. I hope the ceasefire will be maintained and the tensions between Cambodia and Thai will be further reduced.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year!”
