(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Defence Ministry reported continued armed aggression by Thai military forces along the Cambodia-Thailand border, targeting civilian residential area in Poipet municipality, Banteay Meanchey province, on Friday (Dec. 26).
According to the ministry, from 7:45 a.m. to 9:03 a.m., the Thai military fired 155mm artillery a total of 17 shells into a densely populated civilian residential area in Poipet municipality with:
- 10 shells landed in Roundabout Stoeung Bot, Street 58, Phsar Kandal district.
- 5 shells landed in Ondong Thmar Meas village, Nimitt district.
- 2 shells landed in Toul Pongror village, O' Russey district.
The attacks inflicted injuries to innocent civilians who were traveling on Street 58 and damaged private properties, as well.
The brutal actions above are indiscriminate attacks by the Thai military, a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
The Cambodian forces assisted the injured civilians and continue to monitor the situation closely, and stand strong, brave, and remain vigilant in fulfilling their roles to protect the territorial integrity of Cambodia.
