(Phnom Penh): On the afternoon of 23 December 2025, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held a telephone call with Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic.
During the call, Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed Cambodia’s appreciation for France’s steadfast support of the peace process, particularly for the Ceasefire Agreement of 28 July 2025 and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of 26 October 2025.
He underscored the deterioration of the humanitarian situation, resulting in the displacement of over half a million Cambodian civilians, as well as the damage inflicted on Cambodian cultural heritage sites amid the hostilities.
In response, Jean-Noël Barrot appreciated the ASEAN Chair’s Statement made in the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Current Situation Between Cambodia and Thailand, held on 22 December 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, regarding the resumption of dialogue to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, and welcomed the upcoming holding of the General Border Committee, held on 24 December 2025. He also expressed France’s support to the efforts initiated by Malaysia, China and the United States to achieve a peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels.
At the conclusion of the conversation, Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to peace and to the full implementation of the ceasefire.
