(Phnom Penh): Cambodia expressed its support for the organization of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on 24 December 2025, following a statement by the ASEAN Chair released after the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Special Meeting on the current situation between Cambodia and Thailand, held in Kuala Lumpur on 22 December 2025.

In a letter sent to Thai Minister of Defense General Nattaphon Narkphanit, who serves as the Thai co-chair of the GBC, Cambodian Minister of National Defence Tea Seiha reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution in accordance with international law whenever tensions arise along the border.

The statement from the ASEAN chair welcomed discussions on continuing the ceasefire and halting all acts of violence, while the ASEAN Foreign Ministers expressed hope for a reduction of tensions at the initial stage.

Regarding the discussion points, Cambodia proposed that the GBC meeting focus on several key measures. These include the immediate cessation of all forms of violence, full respect for and implementation of the 28 July 2025 ceasefire agreement, as well as the joint Kuala Lumpur statement of 26 October 2025 and other agreements reached under the same framework.

Another priority measure is the safe and dignified return of civilians affected in the border areas to their homes, alongside urgent steps to resolve the conflict peacefully and fully implement the joint Kuala Lumpur statement, together with the immediate reactivation of existing mechanisms in the framework, including border demarcation and humanitarian cooperation.
