(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Ministry Defence reported continued armed aggression by Thai military forces along the Cambodia–Thailand border, targeting Cambodian sovereign territory in the 5th Military Region at the area of Phnom Prek District and Sampov Loon District, Battambang province on Monday (Dec. 22).
- From 6:25 a.m. to 6:35 a.m., the Thai military fired 5 shells of 155mm artillery into the area of Phnom Proek Commune and 2 shells into the area of O’ Choat village, Barang Thlaek Commune, Phnom Proek District, Battambang Province.
- From 8:40 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the Thai military fired 5 shells of 155mm artillery into the area of Kilo 9 village, Chrey Seima Commune, Sampov Lun District, Battambang Province. According to preliminary information from local authorities, the attack has injured one civilian.
The brutal actions above are indiscriminate attack by the Thai military, a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
As of now, the situation has returned to calm but the Cambodian forces continue to monitor the situation closely, and stand strong, brave, and remain vigilant in fulfilling their roles to protect the territorial integrity of Cambodia. We will protect our dignity with courage and unwavering resolve, at any cost, and without succumbing to coercion or intimidation in any form.
