(Phnom Penh): Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that Cambodia and Thailand have both expressed their willingness to de-escalate tensions and implement a ceasefire following separate phone calls with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
In a message posted on his social media on Thursday (Dec. 18), Guo said that on 18 December 2025, Wang Yi held separate telephone conversations with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
“Both the Cambodian and Thai sides expressed their willingness to de-escalate tensions and implement a ceasefire,” Guo wrote.
“Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that on the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, China has consistently advocated for peaceful dialogue and maintained a fair and impartial stance, while supporting ASEAN's mediation efforts. A Special Envoy for Asian Affairs from China's Foreign Ministry has been dispatched to Cambodia and Thailand for shuttle diplomacy,” he added.
Guo continued, “China will continue to serve as a bridge and make constructive efforts to facilitate the restoration of peace between the two countries.”
