(Phnom Penh): In a statement posted on its social media on Sunday (Dec. 14), the French Embassy in Phnom Penh, citing the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, expressed its deepest concern over the escalation of clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
“France expresses its deepest concern over the escalation of clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. We welcome the efforts of the Malaysian Chairmanship of ASEAN to resume peaceful dialogue between the two countries,” the statement said.
France voiced its support for the call by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the establishment of an immediate ceasefire and strongly urged both sides to halt hostilities without delay and resume dialogue.
The statement further stressed that dialogue should take place in accordance with the provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Declaration, with the aim of achieving a peaceful settlement of the dispute between Cambodia and Thailand.
