(Phnom Penh): On Tuesday morning (Dec. 9), the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing its concern about the renewed tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, which have resulted in further casualties.
According to the statement, France called for full respect and effective implementation of the ceasefire of 28 July 2025, and the Joint Declaration signed by the prime ministers of the two countries on Oct. 26 on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
France also reiterated its support for the mediation efforts undertaken by ASEAN, particularly by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as ASEAN Chair in 2025.
“France is convinced that the only way to achieve a lasting and peaceful settlement of the disputes lies in resuming dialogue, respecting international law, and honouring the commitments made by both parties to their ASEAN partners,” the statement added.
