(Prey Veng): Cambodia and Viet Nam on Monday officially inaugurated the Meun Chey–Tennam International Border Gate, a project both sides say will boost trade, tourism, and development along their shared frontier.
Prime Minister Hun Manet described the opening as a “historic milestone” in Cambodia–Viet Nam relations, underscoring the two countries’ cooperation and mutual trust. He said the new checkpoint would transform the border area into a “Zone of Opportunity” that promotes peace, partnership, and prosperity for border communities.
The premier commended the national and local working groups from both countries for their coordination in completing, on schedule, Cambodia’s Meun Chey and Viet Nam’s Tennam border offices and related infrastructure.
PM Hun Manet said the new crossing will drive socio-economic growth in Cambodia’s Prey Veng and Viet Nam’s Tay Ninh provinces by facilitating cross-border trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.
He urged authorities to develop joint strategies to expand commerce and investment, particularly in agriculture, agro-industry, and manufacturing, while stepping up cooperation on border security and crime prevention. The premier also called for the checkpoint’s inclusion in the Cross-Border Transport Agreement and related transit protocols to streamline goods and transport flows.
Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to deepening ties with Viet Nam and transforming all border regions into hubs of political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
