(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia reports a series of serious armed provocations by Thai military forces, according to Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry.

On 7 December 2025, Thai troops opened fire on Cambodian forces stationed in the Prorleng Thmor area of Choam Khsant District, Preah Vihear Province, from approximately 14:15 to 14:32. Despite the Cambodian side exercising maximum restraint and not returning fire, the Thai military issued unfounded accusations against Cambodia. The ministry firmly denies and entirely rejects any accusations made by Thailand, which aim to mislead national and international public opinions and use them as a pretext to escalate military tensions with Cambodia.

Later that evening, at 20:02, Thai forces launched a second attack, firing multiple handgun rounds in front of Cambodia’s defensive line in the O’Phka Sneh area. At 20:30, Thai troops again opened fire on Cambodian soldiers at Prorleng Thmor, the same location targeted earlier in the afternoon, using both handguns and rifles. The shooting continued until approximately 20:50. As in the earlier incident, Cambodian forces did not return fire, fully honoring existing agreements and the principle of peaceful conflict resolution under international law.

Cambodia is closely and cautiously monitoring the situation. The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) has been officially notified for the second time, and Cambodia intends to request that AOT conduct an on-site investigation to establish the facts and ensure transparency, justice, and accountability.

The ministry reaffirms Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to upholding the ceasefire and the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand. Cambodia remains firmly dedicated to resolving disputes through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, treaties, conventions, and established bilateral agreements, and resolutely opposes threats or the use of force. Cambodia seeks a fair, just, and lasting solution grounded in international law, recognizing that war cannot end through the act of war itself.
