(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of National Defense reports that at approximately 2:15 p.m., Thai military forces opened fire on Cambodian troops stationed at a stone-clearing site in Choam Ksant District, Preah Vihear Province. According to Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the ministry, the Thai side employed firearms, B40 rocket launchers, and 60mm mortars.

Cambodian forces immediately contacted their Thai counterparts and urgently requested a ceasefire, as Cambodian troops did not return fire at any point during the incident. The Thai military halted its attack at around 2:32 p.m.

Cambodia continues to closely monitor the situation with heightened caution. The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) has been notified, and Cambodia will seek a formal investigation to ensure transparency, accountability, and an accurate understanding of the event.

The ministry reaffirms Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to honoring the ceasefire and implementing all peace agreements between Cambodia and Thailand. Cambodia remains dedicated to resolving disputes through peaceful means, in full conformity with international law, existing treaties, conventions, and bilateral agreements. The country firmly rejects threats or the use of force, striving instead for a fair, appropriate, lasting, and lawful solution.
