(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth announced that 5G services will officially roll out from 2026 in Phnom Penh and five provinces. Operators have prepared clear investment plans to ensure high-quality mobile network services.

Minister Chea Vandeth made the announcement on 6 December 2025 during the Cambodia Internet Governance Forum 2025.

He highlighted that operators have planned substantial investments, including the construction of 500 antenna towers per year per operator, with a three-year plan to reach 2,000 towers, ensuring robust and seamless services between 4G and 5G networks.

The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) formally launched Cambodia’s 5G mobile service operations on 5 December 2025 under the chairmanship of His Excellency Vongsey Vissoth, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers.

Key Benefits of 5G for Cambodia

- Ultra-fast data speeds. Up to ten times faster than 4G, enabling smoother downloads, high-quality video streaming, and more advanced digital services.

- Extremely low latency. Near real-time responsiveness that enhances critical operations, from emergency services to intelligent traffic systems.

- High-capacity connectivity. Ability to support millions of devices per square kilometer, driving the development of smart cities, digital agriculture, and smart manufacturing.

- Boost to industry and the digital economy. Greater efficiency for manufacturing, logistics, fintech, e-commerce, and innovation-driven startups.

- Enhanced public services. Faster, more effective e-Health, e-Education, e-Government, and other state digital platforms.

- Stronger national competitiveness. Increased investment opportunities, job creation, and improved standing in regional and global markets.

More than an upgrade in internet speed, 5G will serve as the backbone of Cambodia’s digital transformation, supporting innovation and meeting the country’s evolving social and economic needs.

The Ministry has already conducted extensive studies on 5G deployment strategies and has gathered input from all telecom operators. It continues to work closely with each provider to ensure the smooth and successful rollout of 5G services nationwide.
