(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth, who also chairs the Cambodian Digital Government Committee, announced on Friday (Dec. 5) that Cambodia is fully prepared to launch nationwide 5G services beginning in 2026.
The minister spoke at the opening of the Digital Government Forum 2025 and related national and international events, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, representing Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Minister Chea Vandeth stated that Cambodia’s digital infrastructure, the backbone of the country’s ongoing digital transformation, has seen significant progress, with 4G mobile network coverage reaching 94.7 per cent of the population.
Over the past five years, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has undertaken deep reforms in the telecommunications sector by strengthening regulation and increasing investment in national telecoms infrastructure. The ministry has also worked closely with all operators to expand investment plans, improve service quality and increase 4G coverage nationwide, while simultaneously enhancing revenue contributions to the state.
The minister added that, following the guidance of the Cambodian prime minister and building on the strengthened 4G foundation, the ministry has conducted an in-depth study on the rollout of 5G mobile services, scheduled to begin in January 2026. Consultations with all telecom operators have been completed, and the ministry has coordinated closely with each operator to ensure the successful deployment of 5G across Cambodia.
“On this basis, I am pleased to announce that Cambodia is now fully prepared to launch 5G services from 2026 onwards,” the minister underscored.
He also noted that the ministry, working with relevant ministries, public institutions and the Digital Government Committee, has upgraded key infrastructure and networks, expanded internet capacity, and provided tens of thousands of computers, tablets and devices to support the implementation of Cambodia’s digital government transformation.
