(Phnom Penh): Australian Ambassador Derek Yip said Cambodia’s Government–Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) has become a regional model for investment confidence, noting the Kingdom is now attracting the highest number and value of quality projects in its history.
Speaking at the G-PSF 25th anniversary workshop on 27 November 2025, Yip said Australia has supported the mechanism since its founding in 1999 and remains committed through the Cambodia–Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED).
He pointed to innovations such as the G-PSF dashboard, database and new standard operating procedures — backed by CAPRED — as tools strengthening transparency, accountability and government responsiveness.
“Effective public-private dialogue is essential for attracting high-quality trade and investment,” Yip said. “The G-PSF has become one of the most successful mechanisms of its kind, and a model for other countries to emulate.”
He cited rising investor confidence, highlighting Australian firm Renaissance Minerals’ two new agreements with the Cambodian government to expand gold mining in Mondulkiri province and launch a project in Tbong Khmum.
The investment is expected to generate about USD 150 million annually in government revenue, supporting health, education, infrastructure and social protection.
Yip said Australia is deepening its economic partnership with Cambodia through investment promotion strategies in agri-processing and electronics, policy forums linking government and business, and a new online portal to help exporters leverage free trade agreements.
While acknowledging challenges such as geopolitical uncertainty, trade disruptions and climate risks, Yip said they underscore the importance of a strong and responsive G-PSF.
“Cambodia has approved more investment projects this year — both in number and quality — than ever before,” he said. “Australia will remain a steadfast partner in supporting Cambodia’s reform momentum and economic resilience.”
