(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen received a courtesy call by Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on Friday morning (Nov. 28) at the Senate.

According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his delight in meeting Bui Thanh Son and the visiting delegation on the occasion of their official visit to Cambodia. Samdech Techo highly valued Cambodia-Viet Nam relations across government frameworks, legislative institutions, and party-to-party cooperation, noting their remarkable progress. He also took the opportunity to express condolences regarding the natural disaster that recently occurred in Viet Nam, which caused considerable damage.

Bui Thanh Son expressed gratitude to Samdech Techo for granting the audience. He also thanked Samdech Techo for the condolences extended over the natural disaster in Viet Nam. He conveyed greetings and best wishes from To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, as well as from the president of the National Assembly of Viet Nam and the prime minister of Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese deputy prime minister praised the current state of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations, especially noting growth not only at the government level but also between the two ruling parties. He highlighted ongoing bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, which reached over USD 9 billion in the first nine months of 2025. He also commended both countries for maintaining strong security cooperation and stability along the shared border.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen fully agreed with the points raised by the Vietnamese deputy prime minister, especially regarding border security, as both sides have worked closely to address cross-border crimes and implement measures to ensure the border remains peaceful, contributing to the improved livelihoods of people living along both sides. Samdech Techo also highlighted the importance of infrastructure connectivity between the two countries, which significantly supports trade cooperation.

Samdech Techo further expressed satisfaction with the continued increase in bilateral trade and voiced hope that the two countries would soon achieve their shared target of USD 20 billion in trade volume. He also mentioned the joint inauguration of the international border gate at Mern Chey scheduled for early December, a positive sign for cross-border movement, transportation of goods, and further strengthening of cooperation across all sectors between the two nations.

Finally, Samdech Techo Hun Sen wished Bui Thanh Son and his delegation success in their official visit to Cambodia.
