(Phnom Penh): In response to media inquiry regarding a recent post circulated on the social media which asserts that Viet Nam is implementing a road building project across the sea connecting Tien Hai island commune of An Giang province to Phu Quoc island, in violation of Cambodia-Viet Nam Agreement on Historical Waters of 1982, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation would like to clarify that, as confirmed by Ambassador of Viet Nam and the information received from the Embassy of Viet Nam in Phnom Penh, there is no such road building project in violation of the Agreement between the two countries, as circulated on the social media.
"The picture showing a road construction seen in the said social media post is actually part of the building project of a road to the Multi-functional Port of Ha Tien City, in the territory of Viet Nam," according to the statement seen by Fresh News on Monday (Nov. 24).
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation requests that the circulation of this wrong information post must stop, as this may lead to a misunderstanding that negatively impacts friendly ties between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam."
