(Phnom Penh): The Cambodian People’s Party is honored to announce the outcome of the Meeting of the Executive Committee and General Assembly of the Centrist Democrat International (CDI-IDC), held in São Paulo, Brazil, on 20–23 November 2025. During the meeting, the São Paulo Declaration was adopted, considering that the centrist democracy stands at a critical crossroads and must reinvent itself.
The CDI-IDC reaffirmed the commitment to promoting and defending democracy, human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, strengthening governance grounded in political pluralism, ensuring citizen participation through free, fair, and transparent electoral processes; enhancing cooperation and unity among CDI-IDC Members, and recognising the value of cultural, geographical, and historical diversity.
The Cambodian People’s Party, under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Party, has been re-elected as a Vice President of the CDI-IDC for another four-year term (2025-2029), with Suos Yara serving as the CPP’s representative. The CDI-IDC General Assembly, comprising of 105 member parties from 82 countries, unanimously re-elected Andres Pastrana, former President of Colombia, as the President. The General Assembly also elected 16 members of the Executive Committee representing Albania, Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Chad, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Croatia, Hungary, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Peru and Slovenia. Notable among them are prominent political leaders including Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of Croatia, and Janez Janša, former Prime Minister of Slovenia. Antonio Lopez Isturiz was also appointed as the Secretary General.
The meeting also adopted the “Resolution on the Ceasefire and Truce Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand” which
1. commended the efforts of the international community, especially the roles of the United States President Donald J. Trump and the rotating ASEAN Chair of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and the constructive role of the People’s Republic of China;
2. called on both parties to honour the joint declaration between Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur to restore the normalcy to the social, cultural and economic life of the people living in the affected areas;
3. called on the unconditional release of the 18 captured Cambodian soldiers;
4. put an end to all kinds of human atrocities and the abuse of international law, including international humanitarian law; and
5. called on the international community to help restore the UNESCO world heritage sites and other cultural heritages damaged by heavy artillery shelling and aerial bombings.
Andres Pastrana, President of the CDI-IDC and members of the Executive Committee, expressed high appreciation and support for the position of the Kingdom of Cambodia, under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister, in exercising maximum restraint, demonstrating to the world the value of centrist leadership, placing the interests of the people at the forefront, prioritizing peaceful conflict resolution, and upholding the principle of peaceful co-existence with neighboring countries to ensure lasting peace and sustainable development in the region.
