(Phnom Penh): On 15 November 2025, an Information Technology Centre was inaugurated at Samdech Preah Mahasangharajah Bour Kry University (SBKU) with the support of the Government of India under the Quick Impact Project (QIP) scheme of the Mekong–Ganga Cooperation (MGC).
The ceremony was attended by Vong Aneta, Deputy Chief of Dhamma Yuttika Nikaya, Chief Monk of the Dhamma Yuttika Nikaya of Kandal Province and Rector of SBKU; Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Cambodia; Most Venerable Monks; distinguished guests; faculty members; and students.
In his remarks, Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung highlighted that the establishment of the IT Centre reflects India’s continued commitment to supporting Cambodia’s educational development and deepening the longstanding bonds of friendship between the two nations. He emphasized that Buddhism has, for centuries, served as a spiritual and cultural bridge between India and Cambodia, making the inauguration of a technology centre within a Buddhist university particularly meaningful. The Centre, he noted, will equip monks, teachers, and students with essential digital skills, broaden access to global learning resources, and support the integration of traditional knowledge with modern technology.
The Ambassador also recalled that India has previously supported the establishment of IT Centres at Preah Sihanoukraja Buddhist University in Phnom Penh, its Battambang branch, and at Preah Sihamoniraja Buddhist University, thereby building a growing network of digital learning hubs that promote technological empowerment and strengthen Buddhist scholarship in Cambodia.
Under the Mekong–Ganga Cooperation framework, India implements 10 Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) every year in Cambodia, supporting priority sectors such as education, health, women’s empowerment, sanitation, and agriculture. To date, India has sanctioned 64 QIPs in Cambodia, of which 47 have been successfully completed, while 17 are currently under implementation.
