(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen that Cambodia has not revoked the citizenship of any individual, contrasting this with Thailand’s recent actions against Neak Oknha Ly Yong Phat and Neak Oknha Kok An.

Samdech Techo spoke on Monday (Nov. 17) during the 33rd National Congress of Buddhist Monks at the National Institute of Education.

“As of now, we have not revoked the citizenship of any individual, while Thailand has already revoked the citizenship of two individuals namely Neak Oknha Ly Yong Phat and Neak Oknha Kok An,” Samdech Techo underscored.

He noted that nearly 80 per cent of countries worldwide have legal provisions allowing citizenship revocation. Cambodia has not exercised this power to date, though he acknowledged that it could happen in the future if an individual’s wrongdoing warranted such action.

It should be recalled that on 8 July 2025, Thai courts and authorities issued arrest warrants and searched the residence of Neak Oknha Kok An in Samut Prakan Province near Bangkok, seizing several luxury vehicles and more than 27 million baht in cash.

Later, on 24 September 2025, the Thai government decided to revoke the citizenship of Neak Oknha Ly Yong Phat, a member of the Cambodian Senate. According to explanations from the Thai government, the revocation was due to both Ly Yong Phat and Kok An being implicated in online fraud activities.
