(Islamabad): Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC) has been closely monitoring the evolving development of the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. We, therefore, applaud the Joint Declaration for peace signed by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Prime Minister f the Kingdom of Thailand on 26 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bearing witness by the US's President Donald Trump, and His Excellency Anwar 1brahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia as the ASEAN Chair. However, we are deeply concerned over the recent reports claiming that Thailand authority has approved the suspension of the Joint Declaration and authorized military operations against Cambodia, making the hard-earned peace deal very fragile.

The Joint Declaration reaffirms the strong commitment of the two countries to end the act of hostility, prevent further devastation and displacement of population, as well as avoid the loss of lives by refraining from the threat or use of force, settling the disputes peacefully, respecting for international boundary and international law, and promoting peace, security and prosperity on the basis of mutual respect for the independence, sovereignty, equality territorial integrity, and national identity.

The ISC remains committed to working with the international community to address the common challenges and advance the principles of interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values for peace, security and development. We, therefore, earnestly call upon both sides to firmly respect and fully implement the agreed principles in the Joint Declaration to de-escalatc the tensions, restore confidence and peace along the border, resolve differences peacefully in the spirt of good neighborliness, friendship, and solidarity, as well as work towards the restoration of diplomatic and mutual beneficial relations to bring the lasting peace and security for both countries and the region at large.

We also urge Thailand to immediately release the 18 Cambodian soldiers who were captured after the ceasefire agreement taking effect, to showcase its desire and goodwill to promote mutual confidence and trust building for peace and stability in accordance with the humanitarian and international law, while honoring the ASEAN Community Building Vision built upon the spirit of equality and peaceful co-existence.
