(Banteay Meanchey): Residents of Prey Chan village, Ou Beichoan commune, Ou Chrou district, Banteay Meanchey province, have endured around three months of harassment from Thai soldiers and extremist groups, including the installation of barbed wire fencing to seize their land and homes, as well as loud noise disturbances at night. Despite these provocations, the villagers remained steadfast and refused to abandon their homes and community.

On November 12, they came under heavy gunfire from Thai soldiers, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to three others. Following the attack, the villagers were evacuated by authorities to safer areas away from their homes.

On October 26, they had felt great joy and hope after the issuance of the Joint Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, believing that genuine peace had finally arrived. However, that happiness has now turned into deep sorrow and disappointment over the Thai military’s unlawful and disrespectful actions, which violated the joint peace statement by launching an armed attack on innocent civilians.
