(Phnom Penh): On November 8, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cambodia opened its doors to more than 200 Cambodian students, celebrating the enduring friendship and cultural exchange between the two nations.

The event was presided over by Wu Hailong, President of the China Public Diplomacy Association, and Jiang Nan, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia. Senior officials, academics, and representatives from Chinese companies in Cambodia were also in attendance.

In her remarks, Minister-Counsellor Zhong Jie highlighted the deep-rooted relations between Cambodia and China, tracing their origins back to 1955 when the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk met with China’s former leaders.

“For nearly 70 years, our countries have stood together with mutual support and respect. This partnership is an iron-clad friendship that continues to grow stronger. […] Through cooperation in education, economy, industry, and culture, our bilateral ties have produced fruitful results that contribute to Cambodia’s modernization and sustainable development,” she added.

The Open Day featured a range of engaging activities, including Chinese opera performances, traditional dance and singing showcases, cooking demonstrations, and literature exchanges. The event also highlighted tourism and people-to-people initiatives as key pillars of bilateral cooperation.

“The youth are the future of both nations,” Zhong Jie underscored. “The Cambodia-China Friendship Youth Home serves as an important bridge to connect young people, fostering mutual understanding and shared growth.”

The Open Day event reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to deepening friendship, promoting cultural exchange, and nurturing the next generation of leaders who will carry forward the spirit of cooperation and shared destiny between Cambodia and China.
