(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen encouraged Japanese investors to expand their investment in Cambodia’s agro-industrial and technology sectors.

Samsech Techo received a courtesy call by Takahashi Fumiaki, President of the Japan-Cambodia Association, and his delegation on Monday (Nov. 10) at the Senate.

Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate, said that at the outset, Samdech Techo expressed his pleasure in meeting with the delegation of the Japan-Cambodia Association and commended the association’s active role in strengthening the relationship between Cambodia and Japan, as well as between the peoples of both nations. In particular, he appreciated the association’s efforts in attracting Japanese investors to Cambodia, which is an important contribution to promoting investment and supporting the Kingdom’s economic growth.

Takahashi Fumiaki expressed his deep gratitude to Samdech Techo for granting the honour of this audience and for his continued support. He noted that Cambodia has drawn significant attention from Japanese investors across various sectors. Currently, around 36 Japanese companies are operating in the Kingdom, investing in fields such as technology, vocational training, and agro-industry.

He further emphasised that the Cambodian government’s long-standing support for Japanese investors from the time when Samdech Techo served as Prime Minister up to the present has provided great confidence to Japanese business communities, particularly members of the Japan-Cambodia Association.

On this occasion, Samdech Techo expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the Japan-Cambodia Association in connecting the two nations, especially in providing vocational training to Cambodian youths. He stressed that vocational skills are essential both in Cambodia’s context and in Japan’s, serving as a vital driver of economic development.

Samdech Techo also highlighted his appreciation for Japanese investors’ growing interest in Cambodia’s agro-industrial and technology sectors. He noted that agro-industry has always been a core priority of successive Cambodian governments, including the current administration, which places strong emphasis on agricultural product processing and technological advancement under the leadership of the prime minister.

In this regard, Samdech Techo encouraged Japanese investors to continue exploring and expanding potential investments in these sectors. Finally, he extended his best wishes to Takahashi Fumiaki and the delegation for success in their mission in Cambodia.
