(Phnom Penh): On Tuesday morning (Nov. 4), Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a United States delegation led by Michael George DeSombre, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, for a courtesy call and working discussion at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei and the US delegation discussed the continued strengthening and expansion of cooperation between Cambodia and the United States to a deeper level in key sectors, particularly investment and trade, following the signing of the Reciprocal Trade Agreement between the two countries on October 26 in Kuala Lumpur.

The US assistant secretary also discussed with Samdech Thipadei the follow-up on the implementation of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, which was signed by Samdech Thipadei and Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, on 26 October, in the presence of Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, and Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, as witnesses. At the same time, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm commitment to implementing this Joint Declaration genuinely and sincerely, with the aim of ensuring peace and stability between Cambodia and Thailand and transforming the border area into a zone of peace and development, both now and in the future.

On that occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also expressed to the United States delegation his high appreciation and deep gratitude to the United States, particularly to President Donald J. Trump, for his strenuous efforts in facilitating the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire agreement on July 28 and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration. In recognition of these efforts, and reflecting the satisfaction and deep gratitude of the Cambodian people, Cambodia has nominated President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
