(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed his continued commitment to protecting the royal family and upholding the constitutional monarchy, emphasizing his longstanding role in safeguarding the institution and its members.

Speaking during the 4th Session of the 5th Legislature of the Senate on Friday (Oct. 24), Samdech Techo reflected on his decades-long responsibility toward the monarchy, rooted in both duty and historical continuity.

“Until today, I continue to safeguard the security of the royal family and the preservation of the constitutional monarchy,” he stated firmly.

Samdech Techo recalled the royal instruction he received from the late King Father, Norodom Sihanouk, following the signing of the Paris Peace Agreements. His Majesty had personally requested Hun Sen to ensure his safety, entrusting him with the protection of the monarchy during a time of national transition.

He revealed that Thailand had once proposed to take part in protecting the king father at the Royal Palace. Samdech Techo said he firmly declined the offer, likening it to a problem of “East out, West in,” and warned that such an arrangement would have political implications.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that after the Paris Peace Agreements, he was the one who personally went to Beijing to escort the king father and queen mother, along with other royal family members, back to Cambodia.
