(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that during the recent clashes, military personnel at all levels have sacrificed their lives and shed blood to defend the nation’s territory. He underlined that there is no need to dwell on losses or portray the Cambodian armed forces as weak, underscoring that war yields no winners neither for Cambodia nor for Thailand.

The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 20) during the inauguration for official launch of Techo International Airport in Kandal province.

“There was never an order for the military to retreat after the ceasefire. I urge citizens who question which side fell or prevailed to understand that, throughout the fighting, our armed forces, from commanders to individual soldiers, have sacrificed their lives and shed blood to defend our nation’s territory,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added, “War has no winners and no losers. War displaces people, destroys homes, and creates suffering. True benefit comes from unity, cooperation, and peaceful resolution, enabling normalcy, continued work, and ongoing border negotiations. This is the objective the government is committed to pursuing.”

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also urged citizens to continue trusting the Royal Government to resolve border issues.

The clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border, triggered by prior Thai attacks, lasted five days. US President Donald Trump facilitated a ceasefire on 28 July 2025, with Malaysia acting as mediator and host. Other friendly countries, particularly China, also encouraged Cambodia and Thailand to resolve the issue peacefully.

The Royal Government and Cambodian citizens expressed gratitude to President Trump for the ceasefire, to Malaysia for mediation, and to other friendly nations, especially China, for consistently encouraging peaceful resolution. It is noted that Cambodia and Thailand have reached an agreement on a draft peace document to be signed by the prime ministers of both countries, with the US president and Malaysia’s prime minister, serving as witnesses during the ASEAN Summit at the end of October 2025. Negotiations on the agreement have been underway for some time and were finalized on 17 October 2025 in Malaysia.
