(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all citizens to continue placing their trust in the Royal Government as the Cambodia–Thailand border issue remains unresolved. He underlined the need for unity across all sectors to ensure an effective and coordinated response to the situation.
The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 20) during the inauguration for official launch of Techo International Airport in Kandal province.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that although the conflict remains unresolved, maintaining military confidentiality is crucial. He urged the public to continue placing their trust in the government, honouring the sacrifices of Cambodian soldiers who have shed their blood and given their lives to defend the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Let me reaffirm that silence does not mean inaction. The government’s strategy is to address issues directly at their source, preventing them from spreading further. Where tensions are highest, we focus our efforts, ensuring the situation never spirals out of control. Some areas may take longer to resolve, but we must weigh the risks: the potential loss of lives, property, and land if we act impulsively. The government takes this matter with utmost seriousness and calls on everyone to continue placing their trust in us. Now, more than ever, the Cambodian people must stand united without division or fragmentation,” he underscored.
The prime minister also addressed public frustration, urging restraint in questioning military operations at the frontlines. He emphasized that frontline troops remain calm and focused, and they are the ones most eager for a swift and peaceful resolution. Acknowledging differing public opinions, the premier said he cannot control everyone’s feelings, especially as some have criticized the government for being too quiet or slow. Nonetheless, he reaffirmed that the government maintains a clear vision, direction, and strategy centred on protecting lives, national property, and territorial integrity while restoring peace and stability for the people.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet outlined the government’s three-pronged strategy for addressing the border dispute: to prevent further escalation of the conflict, to resolve the issue swiftly in order to avoid loss of civilian lives and destruction of border communities, and to restore stability along the border, allowing people to return to normalcy.
