(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on citizens to verify the accuracy of information sources and avoid the risks posed by false news. He also instructed local authorities to issue immediate clarifications whenever misinformation is detected.

The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 20) during the inauguration for official launch of Techo International Airport in Kandal province.

Samdech Thipadei expressed renewed gratitude to the prime minister of Malaysia and current ASEAN Chair, as well as US President Donald Trump, and other leaders who had helped mediate a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

He further thanked both national and international media networks for collecting and reporting factual information regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.

Samdech Thipadei appealed to all media outlets to avoid publishing or broadcasting unverified or misleading information, which could further escalate tensions or create confusion at a time when the Royal Government is making every effort to resolve the situation peacefully.

“Media outlets must strive to avoid publishing reports that escalate the situation, especially those related to territorial issues. If there are minor excavations or land works near the border, we have our observers, authorities, and forces monitoring every area. For locations where demarcation is not yet finalised, we will resolve them through the General Border Committee (GBC) mechanism. In areas that are clearly within the territory of either side, each country has the right to carry out its own activities. Therefore, please do not misunderstand the situation,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei continued, “In fact, there is a stream that clearly defines the water boundary. One side belongs to us, and the other to Thailand. However, some social media users have wrongly claimed that Cambodia allowed Thailand to excavate on our land. That is completely false information”.

Taking this occasion, the premier urged social media users to verify information carefully and rely on official government channels for accurate updates. He also instructed local authorities to promptly clarify and address any misinformation in their respective areas to prevent public misunderstanding about the Royal Government.
