(Kandal): Regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border tensions, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet clarified that although the Royal Government may seem quiet, it is actively managing every aspect of the situation. This includes coordinating military measures, supporting displaced persons and returnees from Thailand, and focusing on the core mission of safeguarding lives, property, and national territory while restoring safety and stability for the affected communities.
The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 20) during the inauguration for official launch of Techo International Airport in Kandal province.
Addressing the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, Samdech Thipadei stated: “Some of our citizens may feel that the government is too quiet or too slow. People will have different thoughts and expectations and I cannot control everyone’s feelings. What I want to clarify, however, is our vision, direction, and strategy for resolving the situation. Our foremost objective is to protect lives, property, and national territory, while restoring a safe and stable environment where people no longer have to live in fear.”
He added that the government is conducting a comprehensive analysis of the situation, from developments along the frontline to the displacement of workers affected by relocation, and measures to support Cambodian citizens returning home. Every dimension is being carefully considered in the government’s strategy. He emphasized that throughout the past three months of border tensions with Thailand, the government has not been idle. All sectors have been working in coordination to seek solutions, with priority given to de-escalating the situation and resolving the border issue peacefully in accordance with agreed principles.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also called on all citizens to place their trust in the government, reaffirming Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to resolving the dispute, ending the conflict, and protecting both its people and territory, including the nation’s armed forces. He added that the government remains firmly dedicated to peaceful solutions to sovereignty issues by avoiding the use of force and instead relying on legal frameworks, bilateral mechanisms, existing agreements, conventions, and international instruments to achieve a lasting resolution.
