(Phnom Penh): The Spokesperson of Delegation of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva categorically rejects the false and misleading report published by the Thai newspaper The Nation on 19 October 2025, entitled “Team Thailand reports Cambodia intensifying attacks on Thailand.”
"This report is a gross distortion of facts, falsely portraying Cambodia as “attacking Thailand at every forum” and “using the IPU platform to criticise Thailand.” In reality, during the ASEAN+3, Asia-Pacific Group, and Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) meetings, the Cambodian Delegation has consistently conducted itself with dignity, restraint, and respect for all Member Parliaments, in full conformity with the principles of the IPU, ASEAN, and international parliamentary diplomacy," according to the statement seen by Fresh News dated 19 October 2025.
"Moreover, there is no wording anywhere in the Cambodian Delegation’s official statement indicating that Cambodia objects to Thailand’s proposal; Cambodia has merely requested that the proposed draft resolution of Thailand be reviewed and refined so that it accurately reflects the IPU’s founding principles of impartiality, neutrality, and constructive multilateral cooperation.
It is deeply regrettable that The Nation has chosen to publish a sensational and unfounded story that risks provoking animosity and misleading public opinion. Such an irresponsible report serves neither peace nor mutual understanding and fails to reflect the genuine spirit of friendship between the peoples of Thailand and Cambodia.
Cambodia strongly believes that truth and fairness must prevail. Our delegation has always acted in good faith—guided by honesty, transparency, and the shared values of ASEAN cooperation. On the contrary, the deliberate distortion of events by certain parties reflects a lack of confidence and accountability on the part of those who choose to assign blame instead of fostering cooperation.
Cambodia reaffirms its unwavering respect for the Inter-Parliamentary Union and expresses full confidence in the Assembly’s capacity to distinguish between fact and fabrication. We remain committed to working constructively with all delegations, including Thailand’s, to advance the common regional and global agenda of peace, dialogue, and sustainable development.
The Cambodian delegation therefore urges all parties to refrain from spreading misinformation and to uphold the principles of professionalism, fairness, and mutual respect that form the cornerstone of parliamentary diplomacy.
Truth does not fear scrutiny, and Cambodia’s position stands on integrity and transparency."
