(Banteay Meanchey): The loudspeaker system set up by Thai extremist groups to disturb residents of Chouk Chey village has been completely dismantled.

According to live reports circulating on Thai social media, the dismantling took place at around 10 p.m. on 17 October 2025.

Other sources also confirmed that the noise attacks had sparked growing disagreement among Thai citizens. Some groups that supported the broadcasts expressed frustration over restrictions that allowed only one faction to operate, while others were prohibited. Meanwhile, newer groups criticized Thai authorities for limiting the broadcasts to just one hour per day, saying the effort and expense of traveling to the site were not worth it. They also voiced dissatisfaction with the Sa Kaeo provincial authorities.

The loudspeaker broadcasts targeting Cambodian civilians were widely condemned as a serious human rights violation and a form of psychological torture, prohibited under the Convention Against Torture.

Despite this, the Cambodian public has expressed appreciation toward Thai authorities for ultimately intervening to halt the extremist groups’ abusive actions.

Chouk Chey and nearby Prey Chan villages are home to more than 3,000 residents, including elderly people, those with disabilities or chronic illnesses, pregnant women, new mothers, and young children. The extreme sound levels have caused serious harm to their physical and mental well-being.
