(South Tangerang): Indonesia reaffirms that the energy transition is one of its top national priorities. To achieve this goal, Indonesia is encouraging countries in the Mekong region to work together in developing renewable energy, including exploring opportunities for collaboration in establishing a regional solar panel development hub and utilizing carbon credits as innovative solutions for clean energy financing.
“The energy transition cannot be achieved alone. Countries must work together to unlock new financing opportunities, expand technology access, and ensure that the benefits are shared across the region,” said Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno.
Vice Minister Havas delivered this message at The 2nd Indonesia–Mekong Basin Connect 2025: Energy Security Cooperation in the Region, organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 16 October 2025. The forum served as an important platform for Indonesia to strengthen energy security cooperation with public and private sectors across the Mekong region, namely Laos, Thailand, Viet Nam, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
The event also featured a keynote speech from Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eniya Listiani Dewi.
“We see tremendous opportunities to strengthen cooperation with Mekong Basin countries through the exchange of experience, technology, and mutually beneficial investment,” said the Director General.
The forum included a panel discussion featuring representatives from the Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC). The session focused on The Future of Energy Security Cooperation in Southeast Asia, moderated by Agustaviano Sofjan, former Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City (2021–2024).
The Forum also featured Business Talk on Energy Security to connect key stakeholders from Indonesia and Mekong countries in exploring practical cooperation opportunities. The session highlighted the business side of energy collaboration and featured participants from Électricité du Laos, PT Indo Tambangraya Megah (Banpu Group, Thailand), CT Group (Viet Nam), Maxpower Group (Myanmar), as well as representatives from the Cambodian Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Indonesian Oil and Gas Company Association (Aspermigas).
The forum concluded with a business matching session between Indonesian businesses and partners from the Mekong region, aiming to identify potential investment and project opportunities in sustainable energy.
Through this forum, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional cooperation focused on energy security, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.
