(Oddar Meanchey): On Friday morning (Oct. 17), the head of the Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) of the Cambodian's 4th Military Region held a discussion with the deputy head of the Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) of the Thai's 2nd Army Area at the O'Smach International Border Checkpoint.
The delegation from the Cambodian 4th Military Region was led by Brigadier General Nith Narong, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 4th Military Region and Head of the Cambodian RBC Secretariat. The Thai Army Area 2 delegation was led by Colonel Yuthasat Setthchai, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Military Region and Deputy Head of the Thai RBC Secretariat.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata confirmed that in this meeting two sides discussed a number of important agenda items that fall within the RBC's mandate. This discussion was intended to prepare for concrete and constructive actions, aligning with the mandate given by the General Border Committee (GBC) of the two countries. These agenda items included content agreed upon at the First Extraordinary Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting, held on 27 August 27, 2025, between the 4th Military Region of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the 2nd Army Area of the Kingdom of Thailand. As a result, the two sides agreed to increase communication, both in person and through established communication channels, in order to better build mutual trust.
It is important to note that this meeting is a direct result of the special meeting held on 28 July 2025, in Malaysia, which successfully yielded a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, as well as to the continuation of efforts to de-escalate tensions along the border, seek practical cooperation to enhance peace and stability, and achieve a speedy return to normalcy.
