(Phnom Penh): Jurng Montarni, Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Bangkok, confirmed that the 18 Cambodian soldiers currently under Thai military custody are in good health and have regular access to food.
Jurng Montarni paid a courtesy visit to the Cambodian Red Cross headquarters on 13 October 2025, where he was granted permission to pay a courtesy call and deliver Red Cross messages from the families of the 18 Cambodian soldiers to Pich Chanmony Hun Manet.
In response to Pich Chanmony Hun Manet’s inquiries regarding the condition of the detained Cambodian soldiers, Jurng Montarni said that he had personally visited them twice to check on their well-being and deliver family messages through the Cambodian Red Cross. He observed that they were eating and resting normally, with no irregularities in their condition. He also pledged to continue efforts to secure their release and repatriation to Cambodia in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.
Taking this occasion, Pich Chanmony Hun Manet expressed her deep gratitude to the ICRC for visiting the 18 detained Cambodian soldiers for the second time, particularly for facilitating the exchange of family letters through the Cambodian Red Cross. She said this is valuable news for the families, the Royal Government, and the Cambodian people, who have been eagerly awaiting genuine updates about the soldiers’ situation.
It should be noted that, as of today, it has been 76 days since the 18 Cambodian soldiers were detained and placed under Thai military custody.
