(Banteay Meanchey): Though the border may be divided by Thai military force, it has not broken the bonds of friendship and mutual care between people living along the Cambodia–Thailand frontier.

Cambodian citizens in Prey Chan village, Ou Beichoan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, and Thai citizens in Nong Ya Kaeo village, Khok Sung commune, Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province of Thailand, have long shared warm relations and close connections. These neighborly ties have grown into deep affection and mutual respect over decades of peaceful coexistence, free from conflict.

Border tensions began when Thai military forces encroached upon Cambodian territory in Prey Chan village, eventually leading to the closure of the border and disrupting direct interaction between citizens of both countries. However, even as Thai military action has severed formal contact, it has not succeeded in breaking the deep-rooted bonds of friendship, care, and emotional closeness between residents of Prey Chan and Nong Ya Kaeo.

On the night of October 11, 2025, a Thai resident from Nong Ya Kaeo reached out via Facebook Messenger to Kim Vy, a 69-year-old woman living in Prey Chan. They spoke in Khmer, warmly exchanging greetings and memories. In the video clip of their conversation, both Kim Vy and the Thai caller shared laughter and smiles, which is a clear reflection of the deep affection they hold for one another.

Kim Vy has lived in Prey Chan village for more than 30 years. She stated that throughout those three decades, she has always maintained good relations with Thai residents of Nong Ya Kaeo. She added that not only her family but also other families in Prey Chan and those in Nong Ya Kaeo have long had friendly ties, and have never been in conflict.

During the conversation, Kim Vy expressed a heartfelt sentiment, saying, "I don’t know when we’ll meet again." This single phrase reflects a profound sense of longing and deep emotional connection.
