(Banteay Meanchey): The Thai military and Sa Kaeo provincial authorities have conspired to give free rein to a Thai individual named Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, known as Gun Jompalang on social media, to commit serious human rights violations that contravene international law — an act that has deeply tarnished the dignity, morality, and humanity of the Thai nation as a whole.

Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, a well-known social media personality in Thailand, has been observed committing and continuing to commit multiple actions that violate human rights, particularly the rights of Cambodian citizens living in Chorkchey and Prey Chan villages, Ou Beichoan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.

In late August 2025, Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet initiated and organized a plan to bring sewage trucks to spray waste on Cambodian villagers and homes in Chorkchey and Prey Chan. Notably, the trucks bore the Thai national flag.

Although the sewage trucks reached the border, the group was not allowed to carry out their act, which drew heavy criticism. This action was widely condemned in Thailand, Cambodia, and internationally as a grave violation of Cambodian citizens’ rights and a serious insult to the honor of the Thai nation. Many critics described how the Thai flag, once a symbol of pride and national dignity, was degraded by being attached to a sewage truck.

Following intense backlash, Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet's activities subsided for a while. However, this individual has once again resurfaced, engaging in actions that further discredit the Thai nation.

On the nights of 10, 11, and 12 October 2025, with support and coordination from the Thai military and Sa Kaeo authorities, Gun Pongpaiboonwet used loudspeakers to blast disturbing sounds, including ghostly noises, aircraft sounds, and other loud noises, aimed at disturbing the sleep of Cambodian villagers in Prey Chan and Chorkchey.

These deafening noises severely affected the rest, mental health, and emotional well-being of Cambodian villagers, especially the elderly, the sick, persons with disabilities, small children, women, mothers with infants, and pregnant women.

The Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) condemned Gun Pongpaiboonwet's actions as a grave human rights violation involving the use of sound harassment — a form of psychological intimidation and abuse along the Cambodia-Thailand border by the Thai military. The CHRC has also filed a complaint regarding this incident to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Thailand has long been regarded as a civilized and dignified nation in Southeast Asia, yet the Thai military’s repeated violations, combined with Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet's recent actions against Cambodian civilians, have seriously damaged the nation’s honor and moral standing.

The acts of Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet that supported by the Thai military and Sa Kaeo provincial authorities have been widely reported globally, including by international news agency AFP, which covered the sound harassment against residents of Chorkchey and Prey Chan villages.

As global media coverage spreads, people worldwide have condemned the behavior of Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, the Thai military, and Sa Kaeo authorities for enabling such actions describing them as inhumane, unethical, and dishonorable. These acts, endorsed by official authorities, have metaphorically trampled Thailand’s national reputation and invited negative judgment from the international community.

Given these developments, a crucial question arises: Will the Thai military, Sa Kaeo authorities, and the Thai people, known for their education, wisdom, and moderation continue allowing Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet to destroy the dignity of the Thai nation any further?
