(Phnom Penh): A coalitions of Cambodian workers unions today expressed a powerful and unified condemnation of actions made by Thai security forces as an act of encroachment on Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by Thailand.
The condemnation comes after Thai security forces, armed with batons and shields and various other equipment, heavy machineries conducted on 10 October a mine clearance operation in Prey Chan village, O Bei Chon commune, O Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The worker unions said these actions were the most brutal act of invading Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by applying Thai law to Cambodia’s sovereign territory.
Sam Soeun, President of the National Labor Union of Cambodia, observed that the Thai army has repeatedly violated the ceasefire with Cambodia, and not only that, on 10 October 2025, the Thai military continued to invade Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in a brutal and aggressive manner.
He considered the act of invading and clearing mine on Cambodian territory as most brutal act, and a violation of both human rights and international law.
“We strongly condemn the evil actions of the Thai military who have repeatedly violated Cambodian territory, especially in the areas of Chok Chey and Prey Chan villages, which are the homes of Cambodian people who have lived for decades,” he said.
Kim Chan Samnang, president of the Cambodian Workers' Rights Union, noted that the Thai side has always used excuses to invade Cambodian territory repeatedly, especially the activities of demining and using land clearing machinery in Prey Chan village on 10 October 2025, which was a violation of the ceasefire agreement with Cambodia.
He condemned the actions of the Thai security forces and considered them conducting the most barbaric acts.
“We see that the Thai side always uses heavy machineries to clear the land and makes noise to disturb the people, as well as young children who cannot rest at night. This is one of the most barbaric acts that the Thai side always carries out against Cambodia,” he said.
The actions of the Thai security forces are a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement, a violation of the spirit of the General Border Committee (GBC) and Cambodia–Thailand Military Region Border Committee (RBC) meetings, a violation of the Memorandum of Understanding in point 2, Article 4 of the 2000 MoU, and a violation of the principles of human rights and international humanitarian law.
