Phnom Penh, September 4, 2025 – The Fresh News Training Center (FTC) has announced the successful completion of a three-month training course on in-depth news writing, taught by veteran journalist Mr. Mar Yarith. This marks the first of eight professional journalism courses to be conducted under his direct instruction.
At the graduation ceremony held on Saturday, September 4, 2025, Mr. Mar Yarith, Senior Advisor and Director of the FTC Media Training Center, as well as Head of the Fresh Exclusive program, said that this training course represents a vital first step in encouraging journalism students to produce analytical articles and express their ideas more deeply.
“I am very proud and happy to see that the students were satisfied with this in-depth news writing course. This is an advanced-level program designed to train participants to express their ideas clearly and analyze social issues in a meaningful way,” said Mr. Yarith.
The FTC also announced plans to launch a new in-depth writing course aimed at training young journalists and aspiring writers who are passionate about producing commentaries, editorials, and analytical articles using modern and effective writing techniques.
FTC is widely recognized as one of Cambodia’s leading media training institutions. It offers both non-opinionated news writing programs—such as Hot News, News Feature, and Feature Story—and opinion-based or in-depth writing programs including Commentary, Editorial, and Analysis.
Mr. Yarith explained that in the upcoming course, participants will first be trained in the fundamentals of Hot News writing, which serves as a strong foundation for mastering the “technical” methods of professional journalism.
He added that the new program will introduce students to internationally recognized strategies for in-depth writing, focusing on techniques such as the Delayed Lede, Nut Graf, Body, and Conclusion—approaches that are widely used for producing impactful commentaries, editorials, and analytical articles.
A veteran journalist with more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Yarith has worked as a reporter for UPI, AP, Voice of America, and several other international news organizations. He also served at Time Magazine in Washington, D.C. Mr. Yarith completed his professional journalism studies at the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland in the United States.
