Stung Treng): The Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto made an official visit to Stung Treng Province on 29 September 2025. The visit was part of the Embassy’s efforts in exploring potential economic cooperation between Indonesia and border provinces in Cambodia.
During his meeting with Vice Governor of Stung Treng Province, Sen Vansim, Ambassador Santo stated, “seeing is believing; by visiting various parts of Cambodia, we learn more about the potential for partnerships, including in efforts to boost bilateral trade.”
The Ambassador highlighted that more and more Indonesian-made products are becoming popular among Cambodian consumers, including in Stung Treng, one of the country’s northernmost provinces, and where the Indonesian diaspora is not present. Growing demand for Indonesian milk and food products show that the locals recognize the quality such Indonesian imports.
To take advantage of this momentum, Santo invited the local business community to participate in the upcoming Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), on October 15–19, 2025, in BSD City, Indonesia. The Ambassador added, “as the biggest international exhibition for Indonesian products and services, TEI will provide an avenue for Cambodian businesses to understand more about Indonesia’s economic potentials.” More than 60 Cambodian businesspeople have registered to attend this year’s TEI.
Vice Governor Vansim welcomed the Embassy’s efforts in promoting closer bilateral economic and people-to-people partnerships. He invited Indonesian businesses to invest in Stung Treng’s agriculture sector, such as cashew nut, rice, and cassava processing industries. Having previously visited Indonesia, the Vice Governor is convinced of the opportunities to bring closer the peoples of Stung Treng and Indonesia.
To gain valuable insights on Cambodia’s energy security efforts as well as cooperation opportunities with foreign partners, Ambassador Santo visited the Lower Sesan II Hydropower Project. Built in cooperation with Chinese and Vietnamese partners, the project has become known as the largest hydropower plant in Cambodia and Southeast Asia.
The Ambassador also conducted a lengthy discussion with business leaders from the Chamber of Commerce of the Provinces of Kratie, Stung Treng, and Ratanakiri. The Chamber facilitated field visits to agricultural and tourism highlights in Stung Treng and Ratanakiri during the Ambassador’s tour of these provinces.
