(Phnom Penh): A U.S. Congressional Delegation, led by Congressman Adam Smith, expressed strong appreciation for the steady progress in Cambodia–United States relations during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on Friday (Sep. 26).
Congressman Adam Smith, joined by Congressman Michael Baumgartner and Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan, conveyed gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for his time and emphasized that the delegation’s visit aimed to further strengthen bilateral ties. The delegation praised Cambodia’s achievements in economic development and underscored their commitment to advancing the partnership.
Prime Minister Hun Manet warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed satisfaction with the deepening cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors, as well as growing engagement between their private sectors.
Both sides also held in-depth discussions on expanding cooperation in key areas, including the economy, investment, national defence, security, and education.
On the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald J. Trump for mediating a rapid ceasefire that helped save many lives. He also briefed the delegation on the latest developments along the border and reiterated Cambodia’s firm position to resolve the issue peacefully, in line with bilateral agreements, treaties, existing legal instruments, and international law.
