(Phnom Penh): The 5th Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces issued a clarification on Friday (Sep. 26) regarding the accusations related to the demolition of a house at the O'Phlok Domrei location, which was asserted as an act of ceding Cambodian territory to Thailand.
“This assertion is completely false and a misrepresentation of the contents of Letter No. 002/2025 dated 22 September 2025, and has no legal basis. The reason is that the task of demarcating borders and placing boundary markers falls under the mandate of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) between Cambodia and Thailand. Additionally, the above-mentioned mandate has also been reaffirmed in the content of the minutes of the 1st Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on 10 September 2025.
The 5th Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces would like to emphasize that Cambodia and Thailand have adequate and clear legal frameworks institutional mechanisms, and technical procedures to address border issues between the two countries. This includes the 1:200,000 scale map based on the 1904 Convention and the 1907 Treaty, as well as 74 mutually agreed and recognized boundary markers. Both Cambodia and Thailand have recognized and reaffirmed these in the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU 2000).
Once again, the 5th Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces firmly states its position o strongly defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cambodia without compromise, and declares its support for resolving border issues through peaceful means and based on international law.
