(Phnom Penh): Brazilian Ambassador to Cambodia Vivian Loss Sanmartin affirmed that the Government of Brazil supports a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, urging both countries to respect the ceasefire and move toward restoring normalcy.
The Brazilian ambassador paid a courtesy call on Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Thursday morning (Sep. 25) at the Senate.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo also briefed the ambassador on the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, explaining the background of the dispute.
Spokesperson for Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Chea Thyrith, said that the ambassador, in response, reaffirmed that Brazil supports a peaceful resolution between Cambodia and Thailand, encouraging both parties to respect the ceasefire and seek a solution that restores stability.
Cambodia and Thailand signed a ceasefire agreement on 28 July 2025 after five days of armed clashes provoked by Thai military incursions into Cambodian sovereign territory. Both sides further agreed on 13 points during the Special GBC Meeting on 7 August 2025.
However, the ceasefire remains fragile as Thai forces continue to intrude into Cambodian sovereign land and populated areas.
Recently, Thai troops intruded into Prey Chan Village, Ou Beichoan Commune, Ou Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province, surrounding many Cambodian households. This incident sparked protests from Cambodian villagers defending their land and homes, but Thai military and police enforced Thailand’s martial law with violence, rubber bullets, and batons, injuring about 28 unarmed Cambodian civilians and monks.
