(Phnom Penh): On Thursday morning (Sep. 25), Acting Head of State Hun Sen received the credentials of Vivian Loss Sanmartin, Brazilian Ambassador to Cambodia.

Samdech Techo expressed delight that Brazil has established an embassy in Cambodia for the first time, describing it as an important step in advancing bilateral relations between Cambodia and Brazil.

According to the Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo conveyed, on behalf of Cambodian king, a warm welcome to the ambassador, stressing that her presence marks a vital part of strengthening Cambodia–Brazil ties. He further noted the significance of Brazil’s first embassy in Cambodia as a driver of enhanced bilateral cooperation.

On the occasion, ambassador thanked Samdech Techo for granting her an audience to present her credentials and affirmed that she would work to further deepen Cambodia–Brazil bilateral relations, particularly in boosting economic and trade cooperation.

She also emphasised the expansion of collaboration across multiple sectors, including closer government-to-government and legislative exchanges, encouraging both sides to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two nations.

Samdech Techo welcomed her remarks on trade promotion, highlighting that robust bilateral relations are largely underpinned by economic and commercial growth. He stressed that both governments should strive to expand trade between Cambodia and Brazil as a way to further advance relations.

Samdech Techo also supported the Ambassador’s idea of strengthening legislative ties, suggesting the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups in both the National Assembly and the Senate to foster deeper inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Turning to the sports sector, Samdech Techo underscored Brazil’s strong potential and rich athletic talent, noting that Brazil is world-renowned for sports, especially football and volleyball. As a sports enthusiast and supporter of Brazilian teams, he encouraged both countries to expand cooperation by sending Brazilian coaches to Cambodia to train Cambodian athletes in football and volleyball, which would strengthen friendship and people-to-people exchanges.

In response, ambassador reaffirmed that Brazil would consider dispatching coaches to Cambodia for football and volleyball training, stressing that this is achievable and could happen soon.

Samdech Techo also briefed the Ambassador on the Cambodia–Thailand border situation. In response, she expressed support for resolving the issue peacefully, urging both parties to respect the ceasefire agreement and move toward restoring normalcy.
