(Battambang): During his visit to Battambang on 17 September 2025, British Ambassador to Cambodia, Dominic Williams, expressed his strong support for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), as well as the mission of Marie Stopes International Cambodia (MSIC), which is part of the global MSI Reproductive Choices network. He commended the MSIC’s commitment to delivering high-quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to both women and men in Cambodia.
Since 1998, MSIC has been one of the country’s most trusted providers of comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare, following UK standards based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and the Ministry of Health. With a network of eight clinics and 30 community-based providers known as Marie Stopes Ladies nationwide, and a dedicated contact centre, MSIC ensures women and girls, especially in rural and underserved communities, have access to essential healthcare and the freedom to make informed choices.
Access to SRHR remains a critical challenge in Cambodia, particularly for young people, persons with disabilities, sexual and gender-based violence survivors, vulnerable women living in poverty, and other marginalized groups. Barriers such as stigma, lack of information, and limited financial means often prevent individuals from obtaining the care they need, especially. MSIC addresses these gaps by offering confidential, and non-judgemental services ranging from contraception and safe abortion to maternal healthcare and counselling. Every year, MSI Cambodia supports tens of thousands of clients, helping to prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce maternal mortality, and promote healthier futures for families and communities.
The Ambassador’s visit highlighted the UK’s endorsement of quality, client-centered care and its alignment with global efforts to promote gender equality, disability inclusion, and social justice. As part of MSI Reproductive Choices, MSI Cambodia applies rigorous UK-set global standards to ensure clients experience safe, high-quality healthcare at every stage of life.
Sivheng Leng, Country Director of MSIC, said: “We are honoured to welcome the British Ambassador to our Battambang clinic and deeply value this show of support for SRHR in Cambodia. The Ambassador’s endorsement underscores the importance of ensuring all women and girls, regardless of their circumstances, have access to high-quality, judgment-free healthcare with the participation of men or partners. At MSIC, we remain committed to empowering women to make choices that shape their futures and strengthen communities.”
This visit marks another milestone in strengthening collaboration between the British Embassy and MSIC to promote access to reproductive health services and ensure no woman or girl is left behind.
