(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed surprise at reports claiming that Thaksin and Yingluck owned assets in Cambodia and that Cambodian authorities were preparing to freeze those assets. He added that neither Thaksin nor Yingluck possess any assets or sources of income in Cambodia.
Samdech Techo wrote on his social media on Monday evening (Sep. 15) as follows:
“I have just seen a news report stating that His Excellency Thaksin owns assets in Cambodia and that the Cambodian authorities are preparing to freeze those assets.
Although I have had issues with His Excellency Thaksin in the past, I must take responsibility in upholding the integrity and dignity of His Excellency Thaksin.
Neither His Excellency Thaksin nor Madame Yingluck possess any assets or sources of income in Cambodia.
When His Excellency Thaksin or Yingluck visits Cambodia, they always use my vehicles. This clearly shows that Thaksin does not own any assets in Cambodia whatsoever.
I must further clarify that His Excellency Thaksin and I have never discussed any business ventures for personal or family economic gain.
If such information originated from Cambodia, I urge for an immediate halt, as our nation must maintain its dignity and avoid fabricating or spreading false and misleading stories.
If this matter originated from Thailand, it should be left to the Thai authorities to handle.”
