(Koh Kong): Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha said that Cambodia and Thailand agreed on the urgent need to de-escalate tensions through the removal of heavy and destructive weapons back to their respective normal military installations.

General Tea Seiha made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday (Sep. 10), following the conclusion of the First Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand GBC held in Koh Kong Province.

“Both sides agreed on the urgent need to de-escalate tensions through the removal of heavy and destructive weapons back to their respective normal military installations,” the minister underscored.

To achieved the abovementioned objectives, both teams will meet within three weeks to develop a detailed, practical, and step-by-step action plan. This plan will be implemented under the observation and verification of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

Both sides also agreed in principle on the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the establishment of the AOT awaiting the approval from both countries’ governments.

Minister Tea Seiha said that we met here in Koh Kong Province to follow up on the positive outcomes of the Extraordinary GBC Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on 7 August 2025, and to put in place the practical steps needed to fully and effectively implement the ceasefire arrangement.

This meeting also reaffirmed the practical conclusions of the four rounds of Extraordinary Regional Border Committee meetings that took place last month between our respective military regions, army areas, of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Royal Thai Armed Forces.
