(Koh Kong): Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Tea Seiha, announced that Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to convene the second extraordinary meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) within the next 30 days, with Thailand serving as host.
General Tea Seiha made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday (Sep. 10), following the conclusion of the First Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand GBC held in Koh Kong Province.
The minister underlined that on border management, both sides recognized the Joint Boundary Commission as the key mechanism to address joint survey and demarcation issues, and agreed to solve any incidents along the border aims for better livelihood of the people from both countries.
“Finally, we agreed that the Second Special General Border Committee Meeting will be held within 30 days, with Thailand as the host,” stated Minister Tea Seiha.
The minister also reiterated Cambodia’s firm commitment to maintain and elevate peace, stability and cooperation with all neighbouring and friendly countries.
On the morning of 10 September, General Tea Seiha and his Thai counterpart, Acting Minister of Defence Natthaphon Nakphanit, officially launched the Special Cambodia–Thailand GBC Meeting. The session followed the GBC Secretariat meeting from 7–9 September, during which both sides engaged in constructive dialogue aimed at building trust and identifying practical areas of cooperation in preparation for the extraordinary GBC.
The GBC mechanism was established under the ceasefire agreement reached on 28 July 2025 in Malaysia, following a five-day armed confrontation from 24–28 July triggered by the incursion of Thai troops into Cambodian territory.
The first extraordinary GBC meeting took place on 7 August 2025 in Malaysia, co-chaired by General Tea Seiha and Acting Minister Natthaphon. That meeting produced a joint communiqué in which both parties agreed to strengthen direct communication between military units and agencies along the border, and to prioritize peaceful dialogue to prevent further conflict.
